Search engine spiders, also known as robots or crawlers, are programs that 'crawl' the internet and in your case, your blog, gathering content to be added to search engine indexes. For example when you carry out a Google search the results you get are indexed by spiders that have crawled those sites and read their content. They then link your search query to the information found on their 'crawl'.
